Vol. 263 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim Estate.

40.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position regarding the proposal to purchase the Cooke estate, Corriga, County Leitrim; when negotiations started; if payment in cash was offered; and how the value of the estate was arrived at.

Efforts made by the Land Commission in August—September, 1968, to purchase these lands for cash were unsuccessful. The lands were subsequently advertised for sale by the owner and proceedings for their compulsory acquisition were instituted in August, 1969. These proceedings have reached the stage where an appeal lodged against the price fixed by the Land Commission is awaiting determination by the appeal tribunal.

The price fixed by the Land Commission is the figure which, in their opinion represents the market value of the property.
