Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Local Authority Offices.

190.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will specify the offices to which section 2 of the Local Authorities (Officers and Employees) Act, 1926, applies.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report. The statement refers only to offices for which I am the appropriate Minister.

Following is the statement:

Category of office

Grades of office coming within the categories in Column 1

(a)

The chief executive office under every local authority.

This category is comprised of Managers, Town Clerks, Secretaries to Joint Bodies, etc.

(b)

Every office and every employment (not being a temporary office, a part-time office as engineer or surveyor under the Council of an urban district or the commissioners of a town) the qualifications for which are wholly or in part professional.

This category is comprised of professional offices such as Engineers, Architects, Town Planners, Whole-Time Law Agents, Solicitors, Quantity Surveyors, Valuers, Chief Fire Officers, etc.

(c)

All such other offices and employments under a local authority as the Minister shall from time to time with the concurrence of the Commissioners declare to be offices to which this Act applies.

This category includes:— Secretary in a whole-time capacity, Accountant, Accounts Clerk, City Treasurer, City Librarian, County Librarian, Borough Librarian, Urban Librarian, Librarian under an Chomhairle Leabharlanna, Assistant Director and Librarian under an Chomhairle Leabharlanna, Public Relations Officer, Dublin Corporation, Personnel Officer, Dublin Corporation, Curator, Dublin Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin Corporation, Deputy City Librarian, Dublin Corporation Accountant, Limerick Gas Undertaking, Corporation of Limerick, Senior Administrative Officer.

NOTE: The Act of 1926 applies to offices of Manager and Assistant Manager by virtue of special enactments.
