Vol. 263 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Waterford Redundancy and Unemployment.

33.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the high level of redundancy and unemployment in Waterford city in 1972; if he will take immediate steps to alleviate the situation by establishing at least one major industry in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the employment situation in the area. I understand from the Industrial Development Authority that, at present, there are under construction in Waterford city three projects, one of which is an expansion. The estimated employment to be given by these projects at full production is about 200 persons, of whom 180 will be male.

A further three projects are under consideration and would involve employment of about 620 persons, mainly male.
