Vol. 263 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Diesel Engine Pollution.

100.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the subject matter and the implications for Ireland of the EEC Commission proposal C.26, 15.3.1972 on measures against pollution caused by diesel engines; and the action taken by him in relation to the proposal.

This directive is part of the EEC programme for elimination of barriers to free trade arising from different standards in different member countries. Since diesel engines for motor vehicles are not manufactured in this country the directive has no implications for Irish manufacturing industry.

The road traffic implications of the directive are, of course, a matter for the Minister for Local Government.

Could the Minister say if I addressed a question to the Minister for Local Government whether I would get information on the directive or on the other matters?

I have said that the road traffic implications of the directive are matters for the Minister for Local Government. I am sure he would be as informative as I am.
