Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Traffic.

164.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the concern of people in Ballyfermot, Dublin, with regard to the repeated infringements of speed limits by heavy trucks using Landen and Kylemore Roads and that the residents are demanding that traffic lights be erected at this junction; and if he will state when these traffic lights will be installed.

I have seen press reports indicating that residents in Ballyfermot have expressed concern in these matters. The enforcement of speed limits, however, is a function of the Garda. The provision of traffic lights is a matter for the local authority acting with the consent or at the request of the Garda Commissioner. My Department is concerned in so far as Road Fund moneys may be sought to cover the cost of such installations but no proposals have been made in connection with the provision of traffic lights at the Kylemore Road/Landen Road junction.
