Vol. 264 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export Credit Insurance.

39.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has noted the British Export Credits Guarantee Department's interest in providing credits for the export of industrial goods to Europe (details supplied); and if he will state this country's position on export credits for industrial exports to Europe in competition with Britain.

I have seen the articles referred to by the Deputy which dealt with the steps which have already been taken in the EEC, or which are in contemplation, with a view to the harmonisation of the various systems of export credit insurance in the member countries.

In Ireland, the Government are already providing export credit insurance facilities which are broadly comparable with the facilities for export credit insurance provided by Government or with Government backing in the member countries of the Community and in Britain and Denmark.

As a member of the Community, this country will play its full part in the preparation and implementation of the measures which may be found necessary to bring the systems of export credit insurance in the member countries more closely into line.
