Appointment of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries.

It is necessary to make a formal statement to the Dáil arising from the proceedings on the last occasion. I have to state for the informations of the Dáil.

(1) that, having informed the President of the fact that Dáil Éireann approved my nomination of Deputies to be members of the Government, the Presidents, on 14th March, 1973, appointed them accordingly;

(2) that, on the same date, I nominated Brendan Corish to be the Tánaiste;

(3) that, on the same date, I assigned the Departments of State to the members of the Government as follows:

Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare

Brendan Corish,

Department of Defence

Patrick S. Donegan,

Department of Local Government

James Tully,

Department of Finance

Richie Ryan,

Department of Agriculture and Fisheries

Mark Clinton,

Department of Labour

Michael O'Leary,

Department of the Gaeltacht

Tom O'Donnell,

Department of Lands

Tom Fitzpatrick,

Department of Foreign Affairs

Garret FitzGerald,

Department of Posts and Telegraphs

Conor Cruise-O'Brien,

Department of Transport and Power

Peter Barry,

Department of Industry and Commerce

Justin Keating,

Department of Education

Dick Burke,

and

Department of Justice

Patrick Mark Cooney.

(4) that, on the same date, the Government appointed the following Deputies to be Parliamentary Secretaries as follows:

John Kelly

Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach and to the Minister for Defence,

Michael Pat Murphy

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries,

Richard Barry

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health,

Henry Kenny

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance,

Frank Cluskey

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Welfare,

Michael Begley

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government.

John Bruton

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education.

and

(5) that, on the same date, I appointed Deputy Declan Costello, S.C., to be the Attorney General.
