Vol. 265 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Family Planning Services.

7.

asked the Minister for Health the Government's intentions for the provision of family planning services in Ireland.

As another Minister is involved in this matter, it will be considered by the Government in the coming months.

8.

asked the Minister for Health the number of prescriptions for "the pill" which were provided to medical card holders within the past year; and if he will make a statement on his Department's policy in this matter.

It is not possible to give the figure requested by the Deputy. Over most of the country the dispensary system operated until October, 1972, and computerised analysis of drug prescribing had not been introduced. However, I hope to make estimates of the prescribing of the drugs in question when the returns up to 31st March are complete. I would ask the Deputy to repeat his question in about two months.
