Vol. 265 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labour Supply Classification.

7.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will arrange to classify the labour supply, including school leavers, people leaving agriculture and likely redundancies in each area by trade.

Unemployed persons, including redundant workers, are classified according to the industries in which they normally engage and according to their occupations. Statistics are compiled by the Central Statistics Office monthly by industry and quarterly by occupations.

I shall be happy to consider the Deputy's suggestion but I would point out that most school-leavers do not register at local employment offices and classification by trade would hardly be appropriate as they normally have no employment experience. People leaving agriculture would ordinarily be classified by reference to their agricultural occupations.
