Vol. 265 No. 5

Written Answers. - Maynooth-Dunboyne Road.

184.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider upgrading the Maynooth-Dunboyne road in view of the heavy traffic using it.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, a comprehensive reclassification of the entire public road network of the country has been in progress for some years. Preliminary studies which have been conducted at engineering level between officers of the road authorities and of my Department in regard to the classification of roads which might form part of the regional system of roads have now reached an advanced stage and I hope to receive a report from my Department thereon in the near future. I shall then arrange to have road authorities fully consulted for their views as to the particular roads in their areas which it is proposed should be reclassified as regional roads. It will at that stage be open to the Meath and Kildare County Councils to give their views on the status which should in their opinion be granted to the Maynooth-Dunboyne road.
