Vol. 265 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Caravan Dwellers.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the grave unrest among residents of the Finglas area arising from the continuing presence of carvan dwellers on pathways and open spaces throughout the district; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I know of the position generally. I must point out that it is a matter for the local authority and the gardaí to deal with any complaints in so far as action by them may be called for in the circumstances.

Would it be asking too much of the Minister if he would indicate to the local authority that he is aware that at the moment there are between 300 and 400 people living in caravans or mobile homes on the roadsides in north-west Dublin, and would he indicate to the local authority his concern in the matter?

The Deputy can be assured I will do what he has asked, but I would point out to him that there are local representatives who have been elected for those areas who can now—they could not do so previously—bring to the notice of those concerned, particularly the council, that something should be done in this matter.
