Vol. 265 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Estate.

55.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Webb estate, Moydristan, County Cavan, will be divided among the local smallholders.

(Cavan): Proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of this estate resulted in an objection, on behalf of the owner, being allowed in respect of 24 acres and disallowed in respect of the remaining 173 acres. The matter of price now remains to be settled. At this stage it is not possible to indicate when the lands will be available for allotment.

Will the price be agreed in the very near future?

(Cavan): As the Deputy will apperciate, when we speak of agreement there are two sides involved, the Land Commission on the one side and the owner on the other. It is not possible for me to say when that agreement will be reached. The Deputy will also appreciate that should it not be possible to reach agreement there is statutory machinery to which the parties may appeal for determining a price. There will be no undue delay so far as my Department are concerned.
