Vol. 265 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Schools Extensions.

7.

asked the Minister for Education the extent to which funds will be made available for the purpose of extending schools in the constituency of Dublin South-West.

The planning of additional accommodation for the vocational school, Walkinstown and St. Paul's secondary school, Greenhills, is at present in hands. The question of the provision of a senior cycle school at Ballyfermot is also under consideration. The necessary finances will be made available as soon as these projects reach the building stage.

Primary school accommodation in this area is adequate at present. It is anticipated that a new school will be required in the Upper Walkinstown area in the future because of the housing developments. Arrangements for the provision of this school will be made when a site has been obtained.

8.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the urgent need for an additional permanent extension for Saint Paul's secondary school, Greenhills, County Dublin to cater for the increased number of pupils; and if he will state whether negotiations for the provision of these facilities are at an advanced stage.

Mr. R. Burke

The provision of a major extension to this school has been approved. Discussions with the school authorities and their building consultants have been taking place and agreement has been reached regarding the accommodation to be provided. The submission of outline plans by the school authorities is now awaited.
