Vol. 265 No. 12

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dinish Island Order.

31.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if a compulsory purchase order under the fisheries legislation was introduced by the Office of Public Works in relation to Dinish Island; and if this action was taken in order to facilitate industrialists who proposed to establish themselves there.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is "yes". Dinish Island was acquired in December, 1970, to develop adequate harbour facilities in Castletownbere fishery harbour centre and also to provide a fishery industrial estate on the island with a view to attracting suitable industries to Castletownbere.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary tell me whether he read the 12th annual report of Bord Iascaigh Mhara for 1971-72?

I have read all the relevant information.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary accept the fact that this development took place on the understanding that certain industries were to come to the area?

We hope they will, and I will do everything possible to attract them.
