Vol. 265 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Safety Plans.

3.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are any plans in his Department to establish more effective means of promoting road safety; the nature of the plans; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am at present reviewing the position in regard to the promotion of road safety generally and I hope to be in a position to make a statement on the matter shortly.

Is the Minister aware that it was intended to establish a new association, the Irish Road Safety Association, to promote road safety in a much more dynamic way? As far as I remember, I had even gone so far as to invite organisations, and in some cases persons, to take part in this new association. Could the Minister tell me what has happened since the 14th March in relation to this proposed new organisation and the invitations which were extended?

The position is being reviewed and it is proposed to set up the new organisation mainly on the proposals of the Deputy when he was Minister but the matter has not yet been finalised.
