Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Delegation Visit.

93.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs when the recent delegation from the Economic and Social Committee of the EEC arrived in this country; when they departed: and the areas they visited and with whom they had discussions.

The third meeting this year of the Regional Development Section of the Economic and Social Committee was held in Dublin on 6th and 7th June, 1973. The visitors arrived on 5th June and departed on various dates up to 11th June.

Certain members of the section availed of an optional programme which included visits to County Wicklow, Galway city, Connemara and tne Shannon Industrial Estate.

During their stay members of the section met the Ministers for Finance, Industry and Commerce and the Gaeltacht, and representatives of the main sectors of the Irish economy, that is, employers, trade unions and farming organisations. They also met numerous other interested groups including regional organisations. I was unable to meet the visitors as I was abroad on State business at the time.

The visit was organised and the programme decided on by the Economic and Social Committee itself. My Department gave them every appropriate assistance.
