Vol. 266 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reverse Telephone Call Charges.

119.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is possible to make reverse telephone call charges from all the EEC countries to Ireland; and, if not, why.

Reverse telephone call charge facilities are available between Ireland and Belgium, France, Federal Republic of Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Introduction of these facilities with the other EEC countries has been delayed by accounting and technical difficulties some of which cannot be resolved until the new international exchange in Dublin is opened. It is hoped the facilities will be available with all the other EEC countries by early next year.

My information is that this facility is not available from Brussels.

It should be. Direct routes, including the provision of reverse charge facilities, were established between Ireland and Spain in June, 1971, between Ireland and France in September, 1971 and between Ireland and Belgium in May, 1972.

And Brussels is still in Belgium.

I know it is but that is my information.

Therefore, the Press reports we read last week were mere speculation.

Sin ceist eile.

It was published in the paper.

The Deputy does not believe all he reads in the paper.

No. They still think that you are doing a great job. They will wake up to that soon enough.
