33.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans for an exchange of information on national and EEC structures under which industrial research institutes operate.

With your permission. a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 32 and 33 together.

Mr. M. J. Cranley, Director General of the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards, read a paper in Rotterdam in April, 1973, at a conference of European directors of research associations. The paper gave a brief account of the Irish economy at the present time and of the role of the institute in industrial research and development. The paper is factual and the information in it is readily available.

The Irish paper was one of a series giving information on national structures in EEC countries under which industrial research institutes operate. Arrangements were made at the conference to record the proceedings and these will be published together with the full text of the papers presented by the Commission of the European Communities.
