Vol. 266 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Illegal Dentistry Practice.

22.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to combat the illegal practice of dentistry; and if he will ensure that dentistry practices in this country are up to EEC standards.

The Dentists Act, 1928, prohibits the practice of dentistry by unregistered persons and provides for the imposition of fines in such cases. Under section 47 of that Act the Dental Board have power to prosecute offenders and have done so, I am informed, on a number of occasions.

The European Economic Community have not as yet agreed on standards for the mutual recognition of dental qualifications but I can assure the Deputy that the standard of dental practice in Ireland is on a par with that of other EEC countries.
