Vol. 266 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dodder Valley Road Scheme.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the Dodder Valley road scheme, Dublin.

71.

asked the Minister or Local Government when works will commence on a new bridge across the Dodder at (a) Springfield Avenue and (b) Butterfield Avenue, Dublin.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 68 and 71 together.

Dublin Corporation were notified on 22nd May, 1973, of my approval to the acceptance of tenders for this scheme, comprising the construction of a new road from Rathfarnham Road, opposite Dodder Park Road to Springfield Avenue, a new bridge across the Owendoher River near Butterfield Avenue, and a new bridge across the river Dodder at Springfield Avenue. Arrangements for the commencement of the work are a matter for the corporation.

I should like clarification on this. I understand that the problem here is that there is a bridge at each end of Butterfield Avenue and that during the reconstruction these must be closed and for that reason Springfield Bridge comes in first. Could the Parliamentary Secretary say which of the bridges near Butterfield Avenue is likely to be constructed first, the one at Rathfarnham village or the bridge at Templeogue? When is it likely to happen? This has been going on for years.

I could not say which one will start first. They are both down to start together.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when work on the Springfield Bridge is likely to start?

It is a matter for the corporation. The tenders are in.

I am not a member of the corporation and cannot ask questions there.

Next June.

I hope the Parliamentary Secretary will be properly briefed on local matters because this is the only place I can get that information.
