Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Estate.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands why a person (name supplied) did not get some land on the Moore estate at Frayne, Athboy, County Meath.

(Cavan): The selection of allottees is a matter that is exclusively reserved to the Land Commissioners. In the present instance I am informed that as the person mentioned resided seven miles from the Moore estate and had no land in the vicinity of the estate he was not considered eligible for an allotment.

In view of the fact that this man had been herd or caretaker for the Land Commission for two and a half years and had been employed on the estate, not actually at the time when it was taken over but for quite some time previously, would the Minister not think he should have been eligible for some land?

(Cavan): I am sure all these matters were taken into consideration by the Land Commission. I have no statutory authority in relation to the distribution of land. The Deputy may rest assured that these things were fully considered.
