Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cabbage Sales.

1.

andMr. R.P. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of the financial loss to North County Dublin farmers arising from the rejection as unfit for sale of cabbages marketed in plastic bags; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am very surprised to hear that the Minister is not so aware, because this matter was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Dublin County Committee of Agriculture. This is causing concern. Is it not a fact that the packing of cabbages in these plastic bags is an EEC regulation?

That is not so. However, it is no harm that the question draws attention to the fact that plastic is not a particularly good container for cabbage and that there is no EEC regulation prescribing plastic as a container.
