Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vegetable Prices.

2.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if the price of new vegetables is likely to show a marked reduction in the near future.

The prices paid to producers for vegetables are not subject to official control. As the Deputy is aware, the question of price control generally is the statutory responsibility of the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

Supplies of the main types of native vegetables are now coming on to the market in increasing quantities. This is likely to result in a reduction in prices paid to producers which, in turn, should be reflected in the retail price.
