Vol. 267 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Water Scheme.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will arrange to have the public water supply extended to the pier head at Greencastle, County Donegal.

A 3-inch water main, with four watering points for fishing boats, which runs to within 50 feet of the pier head, was provided at Greencastle pier in the improvement scheme completed there in 1965 with the aid of a State grant. An extension of that water supply is a matter for attention by the Donegal County Council.

Would the Parliamenttary Secretary ask his advisers to consider whether the request I make is justifiable and, if so, will they make a recommendation to the local authority, with all the knowledge and experience behind them——

The Department would be only too pleased to discuss the position with Donegal County Council but so far as the extension of the supply is concerned it is a matter for that body. Any advice or assistance the Department can give will be forthcoming.

Surely it is not good enough to say that the matter of extending the water supply, which is vital to the fishing fleet interests in this harbour, is a question for the local authority? I say it is a matter for the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries.

We cannot have an argument about it. Question No. 7.

Am I right in thinking that Deputy Blaney was both Minister for Local Government and Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when he was on this side? What was he doing?

What was the Deputy doing in County Donegal? What were his friends doing?

Question No. 7 please.
