Vol. 267 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oireachtas Members Allowances.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to introduce and circulate the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Bill.

I propose shortly to introduce and circulate an Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Bill.

What does "shortly" mean?

It requires co-operation from all sides.

Would the Minister be prepared to say at this stage if such legislation will contain any provision in regard to parity of pensions for former Members of the Houses of the Oireachtas?

I do not think it would be appropriate at this stage to give details of the Bill or of all its sections, but the Deputy may be assured that the need to provide adequate pensions for former Members will receive sympathetic consideration. It does not necessarily require legislation in this form to implement that.
