Vol. 267 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Capital Markets.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on how the capital markets within the EEC can be progressively integrated.

The European Commission is actively pursuing a policy intended to lead to a gradual harmonisation in the various fields of the capital markets of member countries.

It would appear at this stage that this will be a difficult and possibly lengthy task. The commission has set up committees to study the implications of each aspect of harmonisation and to endeavour to arrive at solutions which will be generally acceptable to each of the member states.

I understand that this work is progressing satisfactorily.
