Vol. 267 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carriage of Dangerous Substances.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any regulations in force regarding the use of reinforced plastic tanks for the carriage of dangerous substances; and, if not, why.

There are no regulations in force dealing specifically with reinforced plastic tanks but section 25 of the Dangerous Substances Act, 1972, requires any person engaged in the storage, packing or conveyance of any dangerous substance to take all practicable steps to prevent risk of injury to person or property.

The EEC are in the course of preparing a directive on the use of plastic tanks for the transport of dangerous substances and the International Standards Organisation are also preparing a standard. Pending the completion of these documents it would be premature to introduce separate regulations in this country.
