Vol. 267 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary School.

77.

asked the Minister for Education if there is a proposal before his Department to close Killurney national school, County Tipperary.

My Department is in communication with the manager of Killurney National School in regard to the proposal to amalgamate this school with Kilcash NS. I am not, therefore, in a position to make any further statement in relation to the matter at this stage.

Twenty-eight is the minimum number required for the school to remain open. There are 33 children who will be going to this school next year. Would the Minister take a very sympathetic view? He has had representations from many Deputies in the constituency to have this school remain open. Would the Minister give us a guarantee now that he will not close this school?

Mr. R. Burke

The Deputy is asking for a guarantee which I cannot give. All I can guarantee the Deputy is that I will give it sympathetic consideration.

More than sympathetic consideration?
