Vol. 267 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Builders' Certificates.

111.

asked the Minister for Local Government the average time taken for dealing with applications from builders seeking certificates of reasonable value on new dwellings; and if this waiting period will be shortened.

The average time taken to deal with first applications for certificates of reasonable value is 19 days. Everything practicable is being done to reduce the time taken in processing the applications.

Some of us who have some experience of the Department of Local Government averages over the last 16 years in regard to applications would like the Minister to give us the longest and the shortest time taken, not just the average.

I will give the Deputy the number of days taken to issue decisions and perhaps they might satisfy him.

What is the longest period, not the average?

The longest period is 21 days which is, in fact, the period requested by the Federation of Builders. Except on a few occasions—in fact, in the first week of June—we have never been as long as that and it has come down to as low as 11 days.
