Vol. 267 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Cereal Controls.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the implications for Irish cereal growers of the most recent deliberations of the Council of Ministers in Brussels.

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers on 16th July the Council approved of a regulation authorising the Commission to control the export of cereals from the Community by way of export levies or export licences. These controls will come into operation in the event of the cif price exceeding the threshold price by at least 2 per cent. The purpose of these controls is to ensure an adequate supply of cereals within the Community.

As this country is a net importer of cereals the regulation will not adversely affect Irish cereal growers.
