Vol. 267 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Levy Refund.

18.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if all the farmers concerned have been paid the wheat levy refund; and, if not, why.

I am advised that the repayment by An Bord Gráin of the residual wheat levy for the years 1969 and 1971 will be made early in September. The calculation of the amounts payable to the individual growers has taken longer than was expected.

Could the Minister state why some were paid as early as last January and the rest not until September?

The Deputy probably knows that straight away, within a couple of months, all the levies are paid, but the amount is not an exact calculation and there is an amount over. I think this would not be paid out at all only that the business is being wound up. It is a residual amount that is being paid out because it belongs to growers.
