asked the Minister for Education if he will establish a research unit at Sligo Regional College to investigate, comment on and advise on the economic, social and environmental problems of Counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and Mayo; and if he will arrange for the provision of management courses in that college to deal specifically with the problems of those areas.

The activities to be pursued at Sligo Regional Technical College are matters in the first instance for the board of management of that institution, and it would be for the board to establish a research unit of the type mentioned in the Deputy's question, if they thought it necessary or desirable. My function is one of sanction or otherwise for such proposals as the board of management submits to me in relation to the activities of the college.
