Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Voluntary Body Grants.

205.

Mr. Kitt

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider applications from the National Rehabilitation Board for grants to voluntary bodies dealing with mentally and physically handicapped persons, in view of the fact that these bodies are doing excellent work but that their efforts are being hampered because of lack of funds.

Within the limits of the capital programme of my Department and having regard to priorities in other fields for which I am responsible, I am prepared to consider assistance by way of grant towards capital projects of established voluntary organisations in the areas referred to by the Deputy. In the normal course the advice of the National Rehabilitation Board is sought on such projects. I may say that I have recently approved of two such grants.
