Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Widows' Children Allowance.

207.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why allowances to the children of widows do not extend to the 31st July of the academic year in which their schooling ends.

An allowance as part of her pension is payable to a widow in respect of a qualified child who is between the age of 18 and 21 years provided that he is receiving full-time instruction by day at any university, college, school or other educational establishment. There is no provision in the Social Welfare Acts which would enable payment of the allowance to be continued for any period after the date on which the child ceases to receive such full-time instruction.
