Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Meath Disability Benefit Claims.

210.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in dealing with the claim of a person (name supplied) in Long-wood, County Meath who has received no disability benefit although he has submitted certificates since 14th March, 1973.

There is confusion of insurance numbers between the person referred to by the Deputy in his question and two other persons of the same name. Although the matter has not yet been fully resolved, investigations to date have revealed that the person referred to by the Deputy had sufficient insurable employment to qualify him for disability benefit. All benefit due was accordingly paid.

211.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in dealing with the disability benefit claim of a person (name supplied) in Summerhill, County Meath; and when benefit will be paid.

The person referred to by the Deputy in his question submitted only one medical certificate, a hospital certificate showing that he was incapable of work on a specified day. In the absence of further medical evidence estabilishing a period of continuing incapacity for work no benefit could be paid. As he resumed work without furnishing a final medical certificate he has been asked to forward a statement from his employer giving the inclusive dates of his absence from work through illness. When this statement is received any benefit to which he may be entitled will be paid.

212.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in payment of disability benefit to a person (name supplied) in Trim, County Meath; and when payment will be made.

The person referred to by the Deputy in his question was not initially qualified for payment of disability benefit as his 1972 insurance card had not been received in the Department. The card has since been obtained and all benefit due has been issued to him.
