Vol. 267 No. 12

Written Answers. - Local Authority House Heating.

227.

asked the Minister for Local Government the percentage of local authority houses under construction or planned which will have central heating.

Because housing authorities themselves now have responsibility for the planning and execution of most local authority housing schemes, the information is not available in my Department in the form requested by the Deputy. Central heating is being provided in almost 86 per cent of housing schemes being built for local authorities by the National Building Agency. It is my policy, generally, to encourage the provision of modern heating facilities in local authority housing schemes. It is a matter for each authority, in the first instance, to decide whether central heating is suitable for a particular scheme.
