Vol. 268 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Briefings of State Counsel.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he is satisfied with the manner in which counsel for the State are briefed.

Will the Taoiseach tell the House how he can reconcile recent appointments with the intention as expressed in the television programme by the Attorney General that in future all such appointments will be made on merit alone? Does he not think it unusual that this merit appears to be perceptible now only in those who are favourable to the Government?

This has nothing to do with appointments. The Deputy's question is about briefing of State counsel.

Seeing that the Taoiseach was involved in the appointment of the Attorney General, would he not how agree that, while an Attorney General may make a good politician, a politician does not necessarily make a good Attorney General?

That has nothing to do with the question.
