Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Control.

94.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has given any consideration to the introduction of electronic aids to control traffic on major roads.

The design of advanced comprehensive electronic aids to assist in controlling the flow of traffic on motorways and similar types of heavily trafficked roads is being investigated in other countries and at international level. The work in this field which is at an early stage, is chiefly concerned with overcrowded conditions on these types of road and at present has little relevance to Irish conditions. My Department will, of course, continue to follow developments in these investigations in order to assess their applicability to Ireland.
