Vol. 268 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hotel Conditions.

21.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the action he proposes to take in the light of published statements attributed to the Director of Bord Fáilte regarding prices, service, accommodation, food and hygiene in Irish hotels; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to a speech made by a senior officer of Bord Fáilte at a recent seminar on hotel and catering standards. The speech in question made clear the board's determination to ensure that acceptable standards exist in the hotel and catering industry and the board assure me that the necessary action is being initiated in conjunction with the other interests affected including the industry itself, the Department of Health, regional health boards and local authorities. The board has my full support in these activities and, indeed, when opening the seminar in question I made a strong appeal for better standards.

Hotel prices I might mention are now being dealt with by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.
