Vol. 268 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Electricity Supplies.

24.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that ten householders in Tralee, County Kerry, who have installed the electric air system of central heating cannot get an electricity supply connection; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the ESB that they received some 30 applications for connection of direct heating systems in Tralee recently. These particular systems make heavy demands on the existing supply network, and considerable strengthening of the supply to the houses concerned, involving larger transformers and the replacement of lines and cables, will be necessary. Because of the heavy work programme for rural areas in the Tralee district the necessary improvement works cannot be carried out before May, 1974.

The board have made a temporary arrangement with the manufacturers of the heating system by which 15 of the installations will be connected to the supply on condition that their usage will be within agreed limits until the network improvements are completed. The imposition of limits is necessary to ensure that supply to other consumers in the area will not be affected.

When the necessary network improvements are completed in 1974 the heating systems of the remaining applicants will be connected to the supply.
