Vol. 268 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dumping at Sea.

3.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if Ireland is included among the 57 countries which have ratified the international agreement to control waste dumping at sea, following a conference in London a year ago.

The Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matters, 1972, (London Convention) is open for signature until 31st December next. Arrangements to enable Ireland to sign this convention are at an advanced stage. New legislation will be required to enable Ireland to ratify the convention and the Minister for Transport and Power will be submitting proposals for such legislation in due course.
