Vol. 268 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Transport Service.

51.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange school transport for the children of two families (names supplied) in Ballinla, Edenderry, County Offaly to Edenderry National School which they have attended for some time.

Free transport to the nearest national school is provided in the case of children under ten years of age whose homes are more than two miles and to children of ten years and older whose homes are more than three miles from the nearest national school. The children in the two families referred to in the Deputy's question do not qualify for free school transport in accordance with these regulations. The fact that they are attending a national school other than that nearest to their homes would not warrant a departure from the general rules in their favour.
