Vol. 268 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Development.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance if there are any proposals before him concerning development in Dún Laoghaire Harbour which might interfere with the charms and amenities of the harbour.

Mr. Kenny

As I informed the Deputy on the 3rd May last, there is no proposal to diminish the amenities of Dún Laoghaire Harbour and when examining any proposals in connection with the harbour, full consideration is given to the requirements of the various users of it.

In view of the Taoiseach's recent statement from which I have taken the wording of this question, would the Parliamentary Secretary reconsider the decision to bring in multi-purpose ferries to Dún Laoghaire?

Mr. Kenny

Yes, we will reconsider it but the Deputy's question refers to the amenities. In consultation with all the parties concerned in Dún Laoghaire there was no adverse reaction to the proposed development of the pier.

I am aware that the sailing club has not raised objections but is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that other groups are concerned about the proposed development on that side of Carlisle Pier?

Mr. Kenny

I am not so aware.

I would like to assure the Parliamentary Secretary that it is true. Has the Parliamentary Secretary given an assurance to the Taoiseach which enabled him to make the statement he made in Dún Laoghaire some weeks ago? This is a contradiction of what the Taoiseach said.
