Vol. 269 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hill of Tara.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the Hill of Tara, County Meath.

Mr. Kenny

An area of 43½ acres on the southern side of the Hill of Tara is already owned by the State.

Arrangements are at present in train for the holding of an arbitration hearing on the question of the price to be paid for the 57 acres on the northern side of the Hill which were the subject of court proceedings in recent years. It is hoped that the hearing will take place during the next few months.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary indicate when these arbitration proceedings will take place?

Mr. Kenny

I cannot say definitely.

It has gone on for a long time because of the court proceedings.

Mr. Kenny

Yes. The owner's attitude towards the Commissioners of Public Works is holding this up.

Is the way now clear to go ahead?

Mr. Kenny

Yes. The hearing of the arbitration will be within the next few months.
