Vol. 269 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Direct Telephone Dialling.

47.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when direct telephone dialling to Europe and North America will be introduced.

When the new international exchange in Dublin is opened for service about March of next year operators in the new exchange will be able to dial directly to subscribers with automatic telephones in Western European countries and in the USA and Canada. It is expected that facilities for direct dialling by subscribers from non-coinbox telephones in some Dublin exchanges to certain large cities in Western Europe will be provided towards the end of next year and that these facilities will be extended to include certain large cities in the USA and Canada and made available to all non-coinbox telephones in the "01" area in the course of 1975.
