Vol. 269 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. - Evening Gaeilge Classes.

77.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that a substantial decrease has occurred in the number of students attending evening Gaeilge classes run by the vocational education committees; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At least one further evening class in Gaeilge has commenced since I replied on 7th November, 1973, to the Deputy's first question on students attending evening Gaeilge classes in vocational schools. While enrolments in such classes to date in the present session are less than last sessions total, I understand from a number of committees that they expect that further evening classes in Gaeilge will be provided later on in the present session. These classes are provided as local demand requires.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary accept that it would appear there will be a drop over the year?

Would he accept that time will tell?

I would.
