Vol. 270 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Flooding.

104.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the severe flooding which affected Passage East, County Waterford, during the week which commenced on 7th January, 1974; and if he will state the steps that are being taken to reduce the danger of future serious flooding there.

I am informed by Waterford County Council that flooding took place in Passage East during the week commencing 7th January, as a result of a combination of gale force southerly winds, exceptionally high spring tides and a spate in the River Suir caused by heavy rains.

Remedial action for the relief of flooding is a matter for the local authority to consider in the first instance.
