Vol. 270 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tractor Supplies.

337.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the serious shortage of new tractors and farm machinery, he will ensure that there will be a sufficient supply available for farmers wishing to buy new tractors in the Spring.

Tractors are not manufactured here and agricultural tractors may be imported free of duty or other restrictions from the EEC and EFTA countries and at a low duty rate from other countries. I understand that deliveries of new tractors are at present subject to some delay which is a reflection of production difficulties in other countries and especially in Britain which has been the principal source of supply. The circumstances affecting supply are outside my control.
