Vol. 270 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Veal Export Market.

18.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement about the export market for veal and its consequences.

The interest of this country generally is in the export of beef rather than veal and our exports of veal are not therefore significant. In July last, after consultation with the farm organisations I sought and obtained a derogation from certain EEC monetary compensatory arrangements which would have applied unduly favourable import charges elsewhere in the Community to calves and other young animals as compared with adult cattle and beef.
