Vol. 270 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forest Car Parks.

58.

asked the Minister for Lands the reason charges for car parking facilities in forest parks were extended.

(Cavan): There has been no extension of the charges for car parking since I replied to a similar question in the House on the 8th May, 1973.

Why is a charge made for a guide service to people coming to these parks? Is it for a guide or for the literature available to visitors to these parks?

(Cavan): It is. There is a generous supply of literature available from my Department at all forest parks giving information in relation to the parks.

This still gets away from the purpose of the charge. Is it for a specific reason? Surely the Minister should try to encourage people to visit the parks under his administration rather than discourage them by making charges?

(Cavan): The charges are usually made in respect of the large parks where additional facilities are available.

Such as chairs and tables?
